Upgrading looks and performance with Veilside

For almost two decades, Veilside has been doing wonders in the world of automotive tuning. Veilside provides cutting edge wheels, aero-fashion, accessories, and performance items for Japanese cars, such as Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Toyota.

One of Veilsides fortes is the installation of body kits. Each VeilSide aero kit design is unique and tailored to match the curves and personality of the specified car. For performance, measures have also been taken to ensure low co-efficiency of drag. The tuning company uses computers to implement designs beforehand, in account for the physical properties of a car. This allows VeilSide to precisely drill holes on a variety of our aerodynamic kits to ensure quality fit and finish. High-grade fiberglass and carbon fiber allow for the lightweight construction desired in race vehicles while also providing the flexibility needed for daily driving. Each genuine quality component is hand-crafted by a professional team in Japan and stamped with our logo for final approval.

No wonder why Veilside has already stamped its place in the aftermarket industry. In fact, Veilside tuned a handful of cars featured in several street-racing movie flicks like The Fast and the Furious 1 & 2.

Below is Veilside’s profile:

The VeilSide showroom sits nearby the Tskuba Circuit on the outskirts of Tokyo. VeilSide. Co., Ltd. was established in September 1990 by Yokomaku Hiranao. The name is derived from Yokomaku’s name, “maku” meaning veil, “yoko” meaning side.

In the period directly following VeilSide’s establishment, the company’s focus directed towards performance tuning. At the 1991 Tokyo Auto Salon’s custom car contest, VeilSide won Grand Prize in the Tuned Car Category despite that it was the first time the company had ever participated in the event. Soon after, Yokomaku’s firm won trophies in the Dressed Up Car and Complete Car Categories as well. Soon after, Veilside originated the combat series, which sparked many other companies into a new era of aero-styling.

At an exhibition in Los Angeles, Yokomaku saw the “Batmobile” from the ’60s series “Batman”. According to Yokomaku, “In Japan, people think that superheroes are something for kids, but in the States I saw adults looking at the Batmobile with keen interest.” As Yokomaku courageously experimented with new ideas influenced by old favorites, the creation of the striking Combat model came to be. At first, even the VeilSide staff was surprised. “But they just stared without backing off, and the more they looked, the more they liked it,” says Yokomaku. The Supra Combat was exhibited at the TAS ‘94 and was the object of much discussion during the deliberations for the custom car contest. In the end the judges awarded it for the Grand Prize in the Complete Car Category.

After the Supra Combat was displayed at the TAS, VeilSide received a mountain of letters from visitors who said they had been inspired by the car. The Supra Combat was so successful that people started purchasing Supras just so that they could transform them to Combat mode, and the number of models in the Combat series thus started to grow. In July of 1995, VeilSide received Ministry of Transportation authorization for all the Combat’s aero parts, so the car could then pass official inspection. This was a first in the aftermarket performance industry. At this point the customizing industry as a whole shifted towards the legal turning point that Yokomaku had aimed for.

Today, VeilSide’s dedication to precision and detail still prevails above all industry standards. Whatever it may be, from aesthetics to performance, we assure you that our products are created with uncompromising research and last but not least, endless passion.

Audi A5 gets fiercer

Audi A5 recently received an upgrade. It’s not just under the hood, but in the looks as well.

Aside from the increase power (from 240 to 272 HP), the 3.0L looker, renamed as AS5, was equipped by Abt Sportsline with tuned suspension and brakes, and a 20-inch wheels. Other additional features include an aerodynamic body kit – a set of front skirt, rear spoiler, diffuser-type skirt, and quad tailpipes. Providing the head-turning looks is the provocative two-toned paint finish, accentuated with a color streak right at the center.

Below is the press release:

Dynamical coupe in perfection

The new Audi A5 combines a sporty and an unobtrusive design to a powerful, elegant and individual appearance. “A uniquely beautiful car and thus a real challenge for us,” says Hans-Jürgen Abt.

The managing director of Abt Sportsline raved about the new Coupe from Ingolstadt, but he emphasizes that “our designers and engineers were able to improve the outstanding base model even more”. The character of the noble sportscar still maintains but after getting a special treatment in the Allgaeu it appears more dynamical.

The body kit, especially tailor-made for the Abt AS5, is a spectacular package: a front skirt with a grid element which emphasizes the singel-frame grill and the fog lights, the slightly curved, laterally mounted body parts and the sleek gill-shaped air-inlets, as well as the well-proportioned rear. With the unobtrusive but striking rear spoiler and the rear skirt inset in diffuser optics, the design of the Abt AS5 is gracefully rounded off. The 4-pipe rear muffler is perfectly fitting and additionally recontoures the rear view. Needless to say that the car sounds as a real Abt car should.

Even when standing still, the Abt AS5 is a sensual car, which eagerly wants to be driven. And when it is allowed to go on the road, it shows how much sports spirit it has. First of all, the 3.0 TDI engine gets a significant “power treatment”. The extremely powerful, self-igniting engine perfectly fits to the A5 and, in addition, offers moderate consumption values. By means of improved motor management, Abt turns the serial 240 hp (176 kW) into powerful 272 hp (200 kW). With an extra Abt turbo charger, the power even increases to 300 well feeded horses. Diesel and sportiness belong together since long. Certainly, Abt Sportsline will successively modify later developed A5 engines.

To ensure a perfect handling of the noble power package, Abt also makes use of its adjustable sports suspension, besides the serial Quattro engine. All the more, the Abt AS5 will be brought to a standstill by means of the Abt brake system with a disc diameter of 380 millimeters.

To perfectly round off the successful optics package, Abt Sportsline recommends the AR wheel, which is available for the A5 in the sizes from 18 to 20 inch, of course together with appropriate sport tyres. Wheels, body components and technical modifications build a whole unit: a wonderful Coupe at its best. Not more and not less.

One hot car for the hot chic

Vauxhall recently introduced perhaps one of the sexiest hatchbacks on the roads today – the 1.6L 192-hp turbocharged Corsa VXR.

Imagine a three-door compact with the intoxicating looks and an unbelievable power and torque that belongs to higher-end sedans. With a little dose of Italian super car concept, Vauxhall engineers have just came up with that kind of knockout combination.

A closer look at VXR’s exterior styling reveals a red-hot hatch distinguishing itself from the other models, plus the VXR styling cues. The shapely figure is very apparent from the front fog lights, front grille, to the door mirrors, door handles and the spokes between the standard 17-inch alloy wheels or a whopping set of 18-inchers, undoubtedly the largest in the supermini segment, and round to the rear exhaust tailpipes.

Other subtle VXR badging marks include front and rear spoilers and deep-sided skirts enhancing his masculinity. They are not all about the looks though, as this set provides genuine performance benefits increasing the car’s aerodynamic down force and giving it greater stability during high speed runs.

Magnifying Corsa VXR’s sexiness is the set of superb Recaro sport seats with triangular cut-outs in the seat frames. Tested by employers at GM, the partly leather heated seats appear to be rock hard at first, but do offer excellent lumber support as well as comfort once you get used to them. Ergonic alloy pedals, metal gear knob, VXR-tailored overmats, and special dials complete the racy look and feel. The height adjustable steering wheel is flat-bottomed in typical racing car style and along with VXR badge has the remote controls for the radio/CD player and the air-conditioning system.
